This article explains each object and setting available in Edit People Counter and how to use them. Edit People Counter is where you configure how data is collected — by placing lines, buffer lines, merged lines, and zones on your camera snapshots, and connecting them to the right zones and line types.

Camera list
The camera list shows all cameras connected to each location in your organisation. It is the starting point for configuring people counting.
From the camera list you can:
- Switch between locations if your organisation has cameras at multiple sites.
- See all objects assigned to each camera: lines, buffer lines, merged lines, zones, and line types.
- View a snapshot of what each camera currently sees.
To open the camera action menu:
- Right-click a camera in the list.
- Select one of the following options:
- Add new line: Draw a line on the snapshot to track visitors.
- Copy URL: Copy the camera's link for external access or troubleshooting.
- Duplicate camera: Create a copy of the camera with the same settings.
- Copy unique ID: Copy the camera's unique identifier.
- Camera settings: Go directly to the camera's detailed settings.
Lines
A line counts visitors when they cross it in the camera's field of view. Each line tracks movement in one direction only. To count both entries and exits, you need two lines — one for each direction.
Line limits by plan:
- Indivd Basic: Up to 2 lines per camera.
- Indivd Pro: Up to 32 lines per camera.
Visual representation: Lines appear as a solid coloured line in both the snapshot and the camera list.
To manage a line:
- Right-click the line in the snapshot or camera list.
- Select one of the following options:
- Add zones: Connect the line to one or more zones.
- Change line colour: Update the line's display colour.
- Duplicate: Create a copy of the line.
- Delete: Remove the line.
- Advanced options: Merge lines or connect to an entrance line.
Buffer lines
A buffer line is a secondary line placed near a primary line to create a buffer zone between them. A visitor is only counted when they cross both lines. This prevents false counts caused by people standing on the line, hovering near it, or walking alongside it without actually crossing.
Visual representation: Buffer lines appear as a dashed line in both the snapshot and the camera list. They are only visible when their associated primary line is selected.
To add a buffer line:
- Select the primary line in the camera list or snapshot.
- Click Add buffer line in the action menu.
- Adjust the buffer line position as needed.
- Click Save.
Merged lines
A merged line combines multiple lines and buffer lines into a single group. Use merged lines when a single line cannot cover the full area you need to track.
When to use merged lines:
- Wide entrances (7–8 metres) or large areas (up to 35 square metres).
- Locations with pillars, tables, or other obstacles blocking a clear line of sight.
- Complex layouts where multiple lines are needed to ensure reliable tracking.
Visual representation: Merged lines appear with a chain link icon in the camera list, with the names and colours of all merged lines shown beneath it.
Note: Indivd Pro supports up to 32 lines per camera, which can be merged to handle complex setups. In some cases, merging lines has improved counting accuracy from around 85% to 99%.
Zones
A zone is an area within a location where visitor activity is tracked. All lines must be connected to either a zone or a line type. A single line can be connected to multiple zones.
Metrics available per zone:
- Entries and exits
- Dwell time
- Bounce rate
- Drop-in rate (for location entrances only)
- Crowdedness (requires a crowdedness threshold set in zone settings)
- Movements between zones
Visual representation: Zones appear as squares with four connected lines in the camera list.
To manage a zone:
- Right-click the zone in the camera list.
- Select one of the following options:
- Edit zone: Update zone type, scoring, and bounce rate threshold.
- Copy unique ID: Copy the zone's unique identifier.
Note: Zones are created and named in zone settings before being assigned to lines here. See How to configure zones and zone settings.
Line types
A line type classifies a line when it is not connected to a zone. The primary use case is tracking passing-by traffic for Drop-in Rate — measuring how many people walk past an entrance without entering. Line types can be connected to a camera on a different camera that monitors the entrance, enabling cross-camera drop-in rate tracking.
Visual representation: Line types appear with a tag icon in the camera list, showing which counter they are linked to.
Snapshots and managing line placements
A snapshot is a still image of what the camera currently sees. It is used to place lines and zones accurately on the camera's field of view.
To add a line in the snapshot:
- Right-click the camera in the camera list and select Add new line.
- Draw the line across the area you want to track.
- Drag the ends of the line to adjust its position and length.
- Check the arrow to confirm the line direction is correct.
- Click Save.
To rename a line:
- Double-click the line name in the camera list.
- Type the new name and press Enter.
Note: Snapshots update every 24 hours, typically outside business hours. If the camera angle or field of view changes significantly, you will receive an alert so you can review and adjust line placements.
Note: New lines and zones appear in your dashboard immediately but begin collecting data the following day.
Edit history
Edit history logs all changes made to line placements for a camera.
Each entry shows:
- The date of the change
- The user who made the change
- A snapshot of the line placements at that point
To restore a previous configuration:
- Open Edit history for the camera.
- Find the entry you want to restore.
- Click Restore.
