Before you start
Drop-in Rate requires a camera that covers both the entrance and the area directly outside it where passing traffic flows. If you are unsure whether your existing camera placement is suitable, contact support@indivd.com before proceeding. Indivd can review your setup and advise on any adjustments needed.
Note: Drop-in Rate is available on Indivd Pro and Complete only.
Step 1: Check camera placement and angle
Drop-in Rate depends on a camera that can see both the entrance and the passing-by area simultaneously — and crucially, can distinguish between someone crossing the entrance and someone walking past it. This requires the right angle, not just the right position.
⛔ A top-down camera mounted directly above the entrance will not work for Drop-in Rate. From directly overhead, a person walking past and a person entering follow paths that are too similar to separate reliably. The camera must be positioned to the side or at an angle so that the entrance crossing and the passing flow appear as distinct movements in the frame.
What to look for in the camera view:
- ✅ The entrance crossing is clearly visible as a distinct line of movement
- ✅ People walking past outside are visible moving parallel to the entrance
- ✅ The two flows — entering and passing — are visually separate in the frame
- ❌ Camera is mounted directly overhead pointing straight down at the entrance
- ❌ The passing flow and entrance crossing overlap or are indistinguishable
To verify your camera placement and angle:
- Check the live camera view in the Visual Editor or VMS.
- Confirm the entrance crossing and the passing-by flow appear as separate, distinct movements.
- Confirm the camera is positioned to the side or at an angle — not directly overhead.
- Confirm there are no obstructions blocking either the entrance or the passing area.
Note: If your current camera angle does not meet these requirements, or if you need a new camera installed, contact support@indivd.com. Indivd can review your setup and advise on the correct placement for your location type and layout.
Step 2: Configure lines in the Visual Editor
Drop-in Rate is calculated from two types of lines drawn in the Visual Editor: an entrance line and one or more passing-by lines.
To configure lines for Drop-in Rate:
- Log in to your Indivd account.
- Go to Settings and open the Visual Editor for the relevant location.
- Draw an Entrance line across your entrance to track visitors stepping inside.
- Draw one or more Passing-by lines just outside the entrance to capture passing foot traffic.
- Adjust the lines until they accurately reflect the flow of people in both areas.
- Save your configuration.
Note: For locations with multiple entrances, floors, or complex layouts, you can create multiple passing-by lines and link them to specific zones. See How to use the Visual Editor for advanced configuration options.
Step 3: Monitor your data
Once lines are configured, the system collects data automatically. Drop-in Rate data appears in your dashboard as soon as enough data has been gathered.
To view Drop-in Rate data:
- Go to your Dashboard.
- Select the location you want to view.
- Open the Drop-in Rate widget.
Use the date range selector to compare periods and track the impact of changes to your storefront, signage, or entrance design over time.
Note: If you do not see the Drop-in Rate widget, check that your plan includes the feature and that lines have been configured correctly. Contact support@indivd.com if you need help.
