This article explains how to configure Bounce Rate thresholds for your zones and how to use the data in your dashboard. Bounce Rate is automatically tracked once your plan includes it — configuration is about setting the right threshold for each zone so the data reflects genuine engagement patterns.

Activation
Bounce Rate is automatically available on Indivd Pro and Complete. If it is not visible in your dashboard, check your plan or contact support@indivd.com.
Note: Zones must be configured before Bounce Rate data is collected for them. See How to configure zones and zone settings.
Default threshold
The default Bounce Rate threshold is 30 seconds. This means any visitor who leaves a zone within 30 seconds is counted as a bounce. This default applies to all zones unless you set a custom threshold.
The right threshold varies by zone type. A high-traffic entrance zone where quick movement is expected needs a shorter threshold. A product section or duty-free store where visitors are expected to browse needs a longer one. Applying the same threshold to all zones produces misleading comparisons — calibrating per zone gives you data that reflects actual engagement.
Configure the threshold per zone
To set a custom Bounce Rate threshold for a zone:
- In the platform, go to Settings and select the location.
- Go to the Zones section and select the zone you want to configure.
- Select Edit Zone.
- Set the Bounce Rate threshold. Thresholds can be set from 5 seconds to 10 minutes or more depending on the zone.
- Click Save.
Note: Repeat this for each zone. Zones with different visitor behaviours should have different thresholds. Examples:
- Street-facing entrance or high-traffic aisle: 10–15 seconds. Visitors move through quickly by design.
- Product section or department: 1 minute or more. Visitors are expected to browse before deciding.
- Duty-free store or airport lounge: 2–3 minutes. Passengers have time and are expected to spend it.
- Checkout or service area: Variable — set based on typical transaction or wait time for that location.
View Bounce Rate data in the dashboard
To view Bounce Rate data:
- Go to your Dashboard.
- Select the location.
- Open the Bounce Rate widget.
- Use the zone filter to select the zone you want to view.
- Use the date range selector to compare periods.
Use Bounce Rate data to identify zones where visitors leave quickly and compare performance across zones. As you make layout, product, or signage changes, track whether the bounce rate improves over the following period.
Note: Review thresholds periodically. Visitor behaviour changes with seasons, promotions, and layout updates. A threshold that was appropriate at launch may need adjusting as your location evolves.
