Before you start
A pre/post measurement works by capturing a baseline period before your change, then capturing a comparison period after. The longer each period, the more reliable the data. A minimum of two weeks per period is recommended, and both periods should cover the same days of the week to avoid weekday bias.
Note: If you are measuring the effect of a seasonal campaign, make sure your pre-period does not overlap with another promotion or event that would distort the baseline.
Plan your measurement window
To define your measurement periods:
- Decide the date your change goes live. This is your split point.
- Define a pre-period: the same number of weeks immediately before the change.
- Define a post-period: the same number of weeks immediately after the change.
- Note both date ranges. You will use these when filtering data in the dashboard.
Note: Avoid including public holidays or major local events in either period unless they fall equally in both. Uneven events will skew the comparison.
Set up your zones
Your zones must be configured before the pre-period begins. If you are measuring the effect of a layout change on a specific area of the store, confirm that the relevant zones cover that area precisely.
To check zone coverage before the pre-period starts:
- Open your location in the Indivd dashboard.
- Navigate to Zones and review the zone boundaries on the floor plan.
- Confirm that the zones you want to measure cover the area that will change.
- If you need to adjust zone boundaries or add a zone, contact your Indivd account contact before the pre-period starts.
Note: Zone changes made after the pre-period begins will affect comparability. Do not adjust zone boundaries mid-measurement.
If you also want to measure how many people stop at a specific point, such as a window display or entrance, you can add a line-based measurement. Line-based data can be captured at up to minute-level granularity. Contact your Indivd account contact to add a line before the pre-period starts.
Run the measurement
Once the pre-period is running, no action is needed in Indivd. Data is collected automatically. Make a note of the exact date and time of your change so you can use it as the split point when analysing results.
Compare pre and post data
To compare the two periods in the dashboard:
- Open your location in the Indivd dashboard.
- Set the date range to your pre-period.
- Note the key metrics for the zones you are measuring: visitor count, dwell time, and traffic share.
- Change the date range to your post-period.
- Compare the same metrics for the same zones.
Note: For audience composition data (ICP share), both periods must have enough traffic to produce a statistically meaningful result. If your location receives fewer than 500 visitors per day, contact your Indivd account contact before designing the measurement to ensure the sample size will be sufficient.
